MICHAEL BATEY
“Painting is a form of escape for me and a natural way to express my emotions”
A former gamekeeper from Dumfries and Galloway, Michael Batey is a man of the outdoors, with an unrivalled understanding of our natural habitat. In 2006, he suffered a serious accident involving a tree, which left him immobile. Suddenly tied to an unfamiliar life indoors, a love of painting began to re-kindle, a practice which he had shown great talent in from an early age as a child.
Painting became a vehicle for him to escape to his beloved natural environment of the outside, creating striking visions of “stormy skies brewing up dramatic weather, shafts of light on a hillside or reflections on the river.”
By 2014, Micheal had turned his hand to a full time career as a professional artist having hosted a number of successful shows.
Michael works are recognised for their Turner-esque skies and dramatic landscapes. He specialises in large-scale works which portray the powerful movement, emotion, energy and ever-changing elements in the natural world.
